Travis Pettijohn formed GCI Slingers LLC in March 2013, however, Travis was no rookie in the material placement business. Travis's grandfather Joe Pettijohn formed Pettijohn & Sons in 1958. Travis's father Mike Pettijohn began using conveyors to assist the grueling task of placing gravel and stone into foundations in the late '70s and by the mid 80's Mike, Travis's father was running fleets of dump trucks with conveyors attached to them. By the late '80s, Mike Pettijohn patented the first “Gravel Shooter” mobile aggregate conveyor system in the US and founded Gravel Conveyors Incorporated in 1989. This makes Travis the 3rd generation of Pettijohn’s who have innovated the foundation business. Growing up Travis worked at Gravel Conveyors and Pettijohn & Sons during the summers and on break from school. Travis immediately grew a passion for and loved the challenge of building these big trucks and hydraulic systems that powered these machines. Welding, building and assembling conveyors and hydraulic systems always kept Travis on his toes. The biggest challenge back then was how to throw rock "just 20 more feet"!

My name is Wendis Fugate, I have been employed at Gravel Conveyors for more than four years.
I started out in 2014 as a slinger driver. From there I was fortunate enough to follow in the footsteps of Steve Peyton, Legendary dispatcher. I have been in the role of Dispatch Manager for almost a year. I could not be happier. I have a crew of young men that I work with, who keep me feeling young and energized.
Gravel Conveyors is busting at the seams. We are as busy as we have ever been with truck builds. Again we have another crew of young men in the shop who are amazingly talented. We currently have a fleet of 11 trucks that we operate ourselves and we are preparing to purchase new trucks in the near future. In the last year, Gravel Conveyors has increased an already amazing product line to include, Bibeau truck beds and The GCI 1000 waterproofing membrane.
My career began many years before most of the aforementioned crew were even born. I started working in the foundation industry when I was a young kid. My father owns and operates his own construction company and has since 1965. You can say I grew up in the industry. I operated a backhoe and excavator for more than 25 years, doing foundation work. I was actually a customer of Gravel Conveyors for years, before coming to work for them. Gravel Conveyors is a company heading in the right direction, a company you can be proud to work for and a company I plan on retiring from.
